WP3

Global shifts from Global Production Networks (GPNs) to Global Innovation Networks (GINs) and its determinants at country level

WP3 assesses and measure the shift from global production network to global innovation networks. It also explores the role of the accumulation at country level in attracting R&D from elsewhere, particularly from EU countries. Its objectives are:

  • To provide a theoretical and empirical analysis of the fragmentation of knowledge and production activities in the global economy, looking at explanatory factors at country level
  • To assess and measure the growth of global innovation networks from a macro perspective
  • To measure and analyse the extent of global offshoring of knowledge production activities through the use of input-output analysis
  • To assess the role of national innovation systems in global innovation networks
  • To assess the national institutional frameworks that have been relevant for / have hindered the emergence of GINs
