Distribution of costs and benefits: the global long-run impact of offshoring of innovation for EU firms

WP8 focuses on the global distribution of innovation activities and their determinants. It also provides information on the fragmentation of different value activities between the North and the South and on the resources and skills that are necessary for anchoring specific knowledge-intensive activities. Based on this consolidated information, WP8 forecast the effects of GINs on the competitiveness of EU firms. Its objectives are:

  • To study the impact of the formation of GINs on the long run performance of Northern MNCs
  • To investigate how the generation of GINs through firm internationalization processes may differently involve process innovation versus final product innovation.
  • To investigate how the generation of GINs through firm internationalization processes impacts firm level investment strategies (ICTs and R&D content) and employment composition (skill composition, educational level)
  • To investigate the relationships between different strategies of participation in GINs and the expected impact in northern MNCs
