The role of institutional frameworks and local-global interactions in the emerging countries in the emergence and evolution of GINs

WP7 focuses on role of institutional frameworks and local-global interactions in the emerging countries in the emergence and evolution of GINs. The accumulation of capabilities at firm level can only explain part of the emergence of GINs. The literature on systems of innovation indicates that it is the interaction between users and producers of knowledge that determines the capacity to innovate. Its objectives are:

  • To explore the role of institutional frameworks for knowledge creation and diffusion in the latecomer economies in relation to the anchorage of the knowledge associated with GINs in latecomer economies
  • To investigate university-industry relations as specific institutional frameworks
  • To understand the role of national intellectual property rights regulation in the emergence and evolution of GINs
